Iran Launches First Spy Ship to Strengthen Naval Surveillance

By The Media Line Staff

Iran has introduced its first signals intelligence vessel, the Zagros, enhancing its naval surveillance capabilities. The semiofficial Tasnim news agency reported the development on Wednesday, shortly after Iran’s army acquired 1,000 new drones. The Zagros is outfitted with advanced electronic sensors designed to intercept cyber operations and conduct intelligence gathering.

Navy Commander Shahram Irani stated, “The Zagros signals intelligence ship will be the watchful eye of Iran’s navy in the seas and oceans.” This addition to Iran’s naval fleet comes as the country conducts extensive two-month military exercises. These drills have included simulated missile and drone attacks on critical nuclear facilities in Natanz, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps defending the sites.

Iran’s military expansion is occurring during a period of heightened tensions with Israel and the United States, as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office. In October, a government spokesperson announced plans to increase Iran’s military budget by approximately 200% to address perceived security threats.

The deployment of the Zagros highlights Iran’s focus on strengthening its defense systems and expanding its influence in regional waters.
