Hezbollah Deputy Leader Pledges to Fight Any Israeli Ground Offensive

By The Media Line Staff

In his first public address since the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah by Israeli airstrikes last week, Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Naim Qassem, declared the group’s readiness to confront any potential Israeli ground invasion into Lebanon.

“We will face any possibility, and we are ready if the Israelis decide to enter by land. The resistance forces are prepared for a ground engagement,” Qassem said. His comments come as Israel’s military continues its relentless air campaign, which has already resulted in the deaths of several top Hezbollah commanders.

The Israeli attacks, now entering their third week, have led to speculation that ground troops could soon cross the border, a move that Qassem insists will not achieve Israel’s goals.

In further developments, the Palestinian group Hamas reported that an Israeli airstrike in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre killed its leader in Lebanon, Fateh Sherif Abu el-Amin, along with his family. Meanwhile, another Palestinian faction, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), said three of its leaders were killed in an Israeli strike in central Beirut—marking the first time Israeli forces have struck within the capital’s limits.

Israel’s intensified attacks against Hezbollah and other groups in Lebanon, Gaza, and beyond have stoked fears that the conflict could draw in regional powers like Iran and potentially even the United States, Israel’s key ally. Iran has vowed that Israel’s “criminal acts” will not go unanswered.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that over 1,000 Lebanese have been killed and 6,000 wounded in the last two weeks of fighting. One million people, or one-fifth of the population, have fled their homes, the government says.
