Brazil’s Lula swaps presidential spokesperson for former campaign advisor

SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva decided to replace his presidential spokesperson Paulo Pimenta in favor for Sidonio Palmeira, a former advisor who worked with Lula during his successful 2022 presidential campaign.

Announcing the change together with Pimenta at a public briefing in Brasilia on Tuesday, Palmeira said he would seek to align the expectations of the government, public management and public perception.

The change had been expected for weeks amid growing criticism over the official communications strategy.

Pimenta had told local newspaper O Globo earlier on Tuesday he would step down, with Palmeira taking over his role from next week.
